With the spring season upon us, I want to pose a question to you trackies out there. Which athlete that people might not be familiar with yet will make her presence felt during the outdoor season?

there are two kids from Valhalla that will make there “presence felt” Philip F.-high Jumper and john F.-400m
John Roach of North Salem, he was all section last year in a relay, look for him to break out in the 400
OK, I will definitely look out for these guys, and I know Dan, who usually covers boys, will look for them as well. Any girls people out there think will have a breakout spring?
ok look out for this kid…Junior myles anicete long jumper from irvington high school
and ERIK ROMAIN from irvington high jumper and long jumper
I’m pretty surprised that lawrence cambell wasn’t mentioned in any of the previews. He was one of the top 600meter runners in the state this winter and set the section 1 600meter record. Also Chris Carrington is a solid runner in rockland county and could make a splash on the sectional/state scene this season. When were the all-county teams published in the paper?
Why weren’t any of the possible surprise runners mentioned at all, give them some credit here
First, let me say, both me and Eric really appreciate all the replies. About the athletes to watch, it’s really tough to limit the number to five. I agree that Campbell and Carrington had great winters. I saw Campbell break the section 1 record in the 600 and he looked great in doing it. And Carrington surprised me with the year he had in the winter. But, just going off the top of my head, I think Pat Porteus of Somers, Latty (assuming he stays healthy), McGovern, White from Fordham Prep, Aki Bajulaiye of New Rochelle, Halpin and Cunningham from Iona all could have big seasons. And that’s just in Westchester/Putnam. Rockland’s the same thing with Jean, Maurice Roberts, Flach, Hughes, and Pereira, among others. It’s tough to mention every one in the article. I could easily go 10 deep in both areas, but unfortunately I’m forced to make some cuts. I hope that clears some things up, and keep the comments coming.
The all star section will be out on April 13.
Casey Williams and Clarence Harrison of Mount Vernon (400m)
halpin is overrated. i think his 800 pr is still from his freshman year.
chelsea kushner of pearl river will do work this season she’s a huge talent as a freshman. and irvington’s terrible idk why they try talking themselves up
I agree about Kushner. I was impressed with her over the winter, I think she has a great future ahead of her.
Myles anicete is a give in at states for irvington high school but who’s erik romain?
first off halpin isn’t overrated hes still puttin times up most ‘good’ athletes wont reach….second REAL sleepers…you slept on Mike Foster of Iona Prep, cleared 6’5” at the Iona Invitational and 44’10 at the Mt. Carmel Meet in Ca…Uche Nwowkike also of Iona in the high jump, cleared 6’0 at New York Relays today, has a lot of room to improve…
