Somers Invitational

Well, the Mets lost a tough one today, and normally I’d be fairly depressed, but Dan and I were both at Somers High School today and saw some excellent performances at The Somers Invitational.
I was very impressed with the Somers girls, who did quite well at their home meet. Megan and Avery Faeth led the way, and the Tuskers’ performance really convinced me that they will be a factor in the Westchester County meet. Somers is really solid in a number of field events (Like javelin) where a lot of other teams are week. This means Somers has the ability to score a lot of points and might sneak up on some people as a real contender at the county championships.
Mount Vernon’s Sasha Richards had another excellent day, winning the 100 and 200 meter dash. Richards might be the best pure sprinter in Section 1. She’s a lot of fun to watch.
I know I’ve said this before, but Bronxville’s distance runners just continue to amaze me. That such a small school could come to a meet and just completely dominate every distance race is phenomenal. It’s really a credit to Bronxville coach Jim Mitchell.
I should also mention Ashley Ramsay, Sam Spindel, and Kristin Reese, who were all solid in winning the pentathlon, discus, and 800 meters respectively. I’m going to try to post the full meet results tomorrow for your viewing pleasure.
Before I go I must say that Dan and I are really excited for the county and sectional meets, and, of course, for states later on. We have some amazing athletes in Section 1, and I have a feeling we’ll see a few state champions. Until next time, I’m Jose Reyes, signing off. Oh wait, no, I’m Eric Lebowitz…still signing off.
