Yesterday was a rough day, I’m speaking of course about myself.
First, I locked myself out of my apartment, and my cell phone is inside so I have no means of contacting anybody, then I go to the Westchester county meet, where I’m hoping my prediction on the boys side hold true. Just a reminder this is what I had: New Rochelle, Iona Prep, Scarsdale, Mount Vernon and then Somers.
This is the order the teams finished: Iona Prep, Scarsdale, New Rochelle, Roosevelt, Mount Vernon; Somers finished sixth.
I would have been fine with that, especially if it would have been close, but Iona ran away with the meet, scoring 50 points in the first 5 events. Its runners did what Coach Mitchell needed them to do. You have Michael Foster who was all over the track winning the high jump and finishing second in the triple jump. Kyle Shepard won the steeplechase, which was a nice surprise for the Gaels. Sean Halpin had a great day. He ran a masterful race coming from behind to beat Julian Sheinbaum and Lawrence Campbell in the 800. Overall, the Gaels just dominated, 114 1/2 to 62. A great performance by the team.
I should give Mount Vernon more credit. They had a very strong showing at counties. Jordan Pollock won the triple jump and finished second in the long jump. Then they have Williams, Harrison, Winslow and Allen dominate the relays. This is just overall, a very solid team.
Roosevelt had a real good meet. Finishing fourth is a great accomplishment for this team. There’s a lot of talent in Yonkers and, being a Yonkers native, it’s nice to see one of the schools down there start to have success. Kirk Anderson and Chris Davis had great meets.
In Class B, Somers edged out Harrison 45-39. Both teams got significant runners back, Claudio Delli Carpini looks like he’s almost fully recovered from a knee injury and John Turro seems like his hamstring seems to be fully healed. Bother runners won their events, Delli Carpini the 55 hurdles and Turro the 3,200.
Bronxville won a close Class C meet with 34 points, Croton was second with 25, followed by Woodlands with 24.
For the girls, it was all New Rochelle. They were the heavy favorite coming in and they showed why yesterday. They scored 184 points, followed by Ursuline with 92, Mount Vernon 78, Somers 61, Bronxville 51.
Elizabeth Mott dominated the hurdle events as expected, while Aisha Chisholm controlled the jumping events and Charlotte Pope dominated most of the throwing events. This makes it 13 years in a row for Cap, the team just knows how to win. It’s quite a program he has at New Rochelle.
However, Jan Mitchell has a nice little thing going over at Ursuline. Two Freshman, Shanel Golding and Kaitlin Mallinson look to be studs. They had greet meets, with Golding winning the 800 and joining Mallinson to win the 1,600 relay. This team has a promising future and they will be there to challenge New Rochelle in the future.
Sasha Richards continues to impress. She had another great meet where she won the 100, 200, and anchored the 400 relay for Mount Vernon that also won. She is so fast and is having an unbelievable season.
The Faeth sisters, Avery and Megan are having a great year as they helped Somers finish a surprising fourth and beat out Harrison in Class B.
Bronxville cruised to victory in Class C beating out Woodlands. Jim Mitchell continues to do a masterful job with this team. They are the heavy favorite to win class C and what they do against these bigger schools is so impressive. Its distance runners are exceptional. Tori Flannery led the way winning the 1,500 in 4:46.71
Now it’s time to prepare for sectionals next week where New Rochelle will get its chance to beat out Suffern and somebody will have to try and knock off Ramapo next week.

Mike didnt win the triple jump i did
No mention of Tori Flannery! Convincing win in the 1500 (her third county title at 1500 to go along with her xc win) and her ancher leg to win the 4×800 (her 6th 4×800 win).
i wonder why somer’s didn’t put turro in the mile, is he going to focus on 3200?
I apologize for the Mount Vernon and Bronxville oversight. I made some adjustments.
