Interesting day at White Plains

So, what to make of the Class A meet? Well, for one it was pretty long. And there are a lot of Class A schools in section 1, a lot more than you realize, but that makes for a lot of talent and very good meet.
Boys points:
Ramapo won the section as the team continued its success from the winter. Even with the team not performing to expectations they still won. Mike Abelard still isn’t 100 percent, but he ran admirably. Then you have Kevin Malviert. He ran well, but had a tight hamstring most of the day. He lost out to Jesse Drinks of Ossining which was one of the bigger surprises of the meet. Drinks has been having a good season, but he ran great today, To win in 10.5 is exceptional. Then to have Zach Curtin win the 200 was another shocker. Again, the Yorktown runner has been having a good season, but that was a great race, 21.9. Those two guys ran great and there’s nothing Ramapo could have done about those races, but to still come away with the victory is impressive.
Now about Julian Sheinbaum, wow. That was a great 3,200 race. He won in 9:01, blowing away the competition and everyone at the meet. He just never got comfortable and never slowed down. He just kept pushing himself and going faster and faster until the end. He looks primed for states. He keeps talking about how he wants to beat Kyle Merber at states, if he keeps running like he did today and at Loucks who knows what could happen.
Girls:
Congratulations to New Rochelle, the team had a great meet. It’s a shame the Claytons weren’t there because this could have been a real tight meet. But New Rochelle ran great. Elizabeth Mott set a new section 1 record in the 400, running 54.0. She won the 400 hurdles and 200 as well, overall she had a great day.
Lori Rendos of Clarkstown South also had a great meet as she cleared 11-2 in the pole vault, possibly setting a section 1 record. I say possibly because there is dispute that Rachel Cassatta actually jumped 11-3, but there is no evidenc, as of yet to prove that.
Quick hitters:
Antoine McGill is back running. He won the 110 hurdles, just beating out Whitley. He looked a little rusty, but he still own the event, so with a week of training under his belt he should be fine for state quals next week.
Suffern has some good field athletes. Alex Kleber won the long jump in 22-1 and Jesse Sarka won the pole vault in 13-0, not bad for this team.
Shelby Greany is very impressive. She won the steeplechase and 1,500 before being told to take it easy at the meet because New Rochelle had such a lead.
Sasha Richards is having a great season. She own the 100 today, but lost to Mott in the 200. Mott ran 24.1 in the 200, another great time.

Im really glad to see that you gave Julian Sheinbaum the respect he deserves….Really a good 4 line really does a 9:01 3200 justice…There hasn’t been a two miler this fast in the Section 1 in about 5-6 years….
Lori Rendos did in fact set the section 1 record at 11-2.
