Olympic trials get under way today

Since I just started working at the Journal News about a year ago, I never got to see Lynn Layne or Carin Knight compete at New Rochelle High School, but I spoke to them the other day about heading over to Oregon to compete in the trials. They were predictably pretty excited about the possibility of representing their country in Beijing. There’ll be an article about them in tomorrow’s paper.

But I’ll try and keep you up to date on how they do. Layne will be trying to qualify in the 100 and possibly the 200, while Knight will be competing in the high jump. Layne will begin her competition tonight in the qualifying round of the 100, tomorrow are the semis and finals. While Knight has until Monday before her competition kicks off.
