Some thoughts on the weekend…

September
29

Sorry for the late post, I meant to write yesterday, but I had “family stuff” to do and by the time I got home I was beat and went straight to sleep.

I’m going to briefly run down all the meets this weekend and give you some quick highlights:

Dewitt Clinton:

  • Iona Prep has a very good top two runners. Sean Halpin took 5th in 17:08.22 and Kyle Shepard took 6th in 17:08.97. The team came in second, and the back runners have definitely closed the gap.

  • Dayton Flannery (11, 17:33.57) and Jack Hutton (19, 17:51.12) are also a good one-two for Bronxville. This weekend wasn’t a great time to run, but it was over 2 minutes since its next runner finished. That could be problematic as the team took 8th.

  • Katie Sullivan won another invitational. This time she finished in19:38.71. The team definitely has nice packing after her with Jackie McCarthy (12, 21:22.72) Ashley O’Sullivan (14, 21:41.08) and Carlie Brittan (16, 21.46.36). The team finished third with 60 points and could be a preview of the county meet as Bronxville (25) won the meet.

  • Bronxville will be extremely tough to beat. Its top five runners all run right next to eac other. Henrietta Mier, Tori Flannery, Amelia Philips, Caitlin Hudson and Meredith Rizzo went 3-7, 20:27.0 – 20:54.07.

New Balance Ocean State:

  • Brewster and Somers finished 4-5 in the Division 1 race. Brewster now throws its hat in the ring as a serious contender to the class title.

  • Charlie Carr (16, 17:30.09) led Brewster. His brother John (25, 17:42.69) was next. After that the team was able to pack it in as its last runner finished in 18:04. Real nice meet for this team.

  • Somers ran well, and even though the team lost to Brewster, it still was able to put its top two runners ahead of Brewster’s top guy. Rob Gorecki (6, 17:00.9) and Pat Hashmall (13,17:17.11) led the way. That should be cause for concern for Brewster.

  • New Rochelle took 5th in the division 2 race. Harrison Quamily (14, 17:36.24) led the team. Ruben Barajas (16, 17:47.17) was next. The team looked strong, but it needs to close the gap as the fifth runner finished almost a minute behind Barajas. This is definitely a very solid team, but since it lacks a real front runner, the New Rochelle need to pack better.

  • The Brewster girls made quite a statement. The team placed second in the Division I race. Miriam Munn led Brewster taking 9th in 20:15.99. Arianna Bottalico took 12th in 20:30.40 and Nicole Zazzero took 14 in 20:38.23. That’s a strong top three, but need to close the minute gap at the end of the rotation in order to give Ursuline a serious challenge.

  • The Somers girls are on the right track after taking 7th. Samantha Kuntz (31, 21:25.57) and Rachel O’Conell (21:15.97) were the team’s first two in.

I think that’s all of them. I went over Warwick and Gressler earlier. At Queensbury, Arlington was again very impressive. Be sure t o be back later when I’ll talk about the rankings.

Good question. I was told that they need some rest and some time off, but are not injured.

    Phew :)

I am glad to see Fox Lane finally doing well

in a sport they were so good in back in the day.

Dave Potetti, Jim Warner, Ingineri brothers, Mark

Bingham ect were monsters back when.

Potetti not only led FL to 2 straight state titles,

but he also excelled on the track, once setting a world
age group record in the 2000 yard steeplechase
He was a great 2miler, and lead FL to some great times
in the DMR at the Penn relays :)

    cya !1
