Top 10

So, since I’ve seen most of the team’s run and three weeks, while it’s still early in the season, is long enough for me to have some idea about what’s going on in this sport,I’ve decided to rank the top 10 teams in Section 1 and then break them down by class and county underneath.
I’ll do the girls first then the boys a little later today. Enjoy:
The best of the best:
- Arlington – Top to bottom the best team in the section.
- Suffern – Have slowly been closing the gap. This team has a lot of experience and knows how to run.
- Bronxville – Talk about domination. That meet at Dewitt Clinton was very impressive. When you place all five runners in between 30 second of one another from 20:27-20:54 you’ll be tough to beat. On any given day any one of Bronxville’s runners could be first in.
- Pearl River – Another impressive performance, this time at Gressler. This team has the same advantage that Bronxville has - fast pack-runners. However, Pearl River is just behind Bronxville at this point. Pearl River is probably a little faster up front, but Bronxville has a tighter pack at this point in the season.
- Mahopac – Another great race this week. This time it was at Warwick. The team put six runners from 20:15-21:32.
- Ursuline – With Katie Sullivan up front this team has a nice advantage. It will need to form a tighter pack behind her.
- North Rockland – Good performance at Rhode Island. The team is definitely developing some depth behind Katherine Hekker and Jackie Gamboli. The team finished within a minute of each other.
- Brewster - This team has a good make up and a lot of young runners that should only improve. Strong second place showing at Rhode Island.
- Carmel – Finished just behind Mahopac in the merge at Warwick. This is a senior-heavy team with Ashley Maurer, Kelley Gould, and Amand Holt up front.
- Â Irvington – Took the week off, and should be ready for this weekend’s meets.

While at Kennedy, he ran cross-country and track. He is excited to be covering the sport that he participated in throughout his four years in high school. Dan loves all sports, but has, what some may say, an unhealthy obsession with the New York Giants.

Casey Tolfree spent her high school career playing Section 1 sports at Dobbs Ferry and is excited to have the opportunity to cover them for the Journal News. After graduating from St. John's University, Casey joined the Journal News staff in December 2007 and has covered a variety of sports including basketball, softball, and volleyball.

Couple of comments. I’m sure you meant Pawling not Pleasantville as #2 Class C team, as Pawling is very good and getting better while Pleasantville unfortunately does not have much of any depth behind Libby Lazare and will be lucky to hold off Dover for 6th place in Sectionals.
Bronxville is beginning to pull their pack together and Tori Flannery is starting to come back to form, but the Broncos are still well behind Pearl River in the Speed Ratings at this point. The young Pirates are even a little ahead of Suffern at this point for the section’s #2 spot, but that may well change in a month.
