Wednesday’s cross country results

September
10

I listed the results of the dual meets that were called in tonight. They’re down below, but before you take a look, here are my thoughts:

I don’t know if Yorktown’s course is fast, but watch out for Manu Kumar. He set the course record at his home course – 16:09. That’s fast, no matter what course he’s running.

McTaggart agreed with me that this mega meet that the feel of an invitational. Kinda like a dry run for the runners to get into the feel of things.

Van Cortlandt Park Closing

September
9

Armorytrack.com’s and my former colleague, Chris Hunt, wrote an article talking about how the changes at Van Cortlandt Park could impact the cross country season. Something to take note of: they are fixing the park in two parts, so as of right now cross country and soccer will not be affected. But it is very likely that in another year or two the construction on the park could overlap and both sides of the park could be under construction at the same time. If that overlapping takes place in the fall then the park would not be able to have any cross country races that year.

Just something I thought you’d like to know. Be sure to check back later tonight or tomorrow for some updates and info on the dual meet season as it (hopefully) gets under way today.

One more thing

September

Another football reference: You can vote for the Gameday Gameface of the week by clicking here.

Also, if you want to watch the first high school football game through live streaming check out that link. The game will start at 6:30 between Brewster and Port Chester. I must say it’s pretty neat and the quality is a lot better than you’d think.

Good start to the season

September
8

It’s official. Runners make the best athletes. Just take a look at how the Ramapo football team started  off  its season -  a 31-19 win over North Rockland. My partner, Tony Pinciaro wrote a story on the game. Normally I wouldn’t post football information on the track blog, but take a look at this:

  1. Nick Padilla – 1 catch for 63 yards and a touchdown

  2.  Kevin Malivert- 6 rushes for 22 yards, 3 receptions for 86 yards and an interception

  3. Ryan Whitley – 19 rushes for 84 yards and 5 for 8 passing for 159 yards and 2 touchdowns

  4. Dozie Ezemma -a sack

Oh and let’s not forget – the coach is Dan Zotter – who’s been the Rockland track coach of the year the past three track seasons.

Those guys are trying to win three straight sectional titles – in three straight seasons. Wow.

Check this out

Since the cross country season seems like it’s never going to get under way, I suggest checking out this link at armory track. It’s a short video about the Bronxville girls team done by Chris Hunt and Tim Fulton.

They met up with the team as it practiced in Van Cortlandt Park in preparation for the season. Head Coach Jim Mitchell and senior captain Tori Flannery talk about their expectations for the upcoming season, what it’s like training at VCP and Mitchell talks about how this team compares to past ones. It’s definitely worth a look.

Today in The Journal News

September
1

Finally the cross country previews have been released.

My colleague, Matt Ng wrote the girls’ articles. The first is about the success of the Bronxville program. In Rockland, it’s an article about Pearl River’s dynasty. Outside of his two articles, there are his Rockland runners to watch, his Southern/Central Westchester runners to watch and his Northern Westchester runners to keep an eye on. He also raises three questions about the season and his season at a glance.

I focused on the boys side. In Westchester my article talks about Fox Lane’s potentially big season. In Rockland the article focuses on Suffern, Pearl River and North Rockland. Be sure to also check out my Rockland runners to watch, the Souther/Central Westchester runners to watch and the Putnam/Northern Westchester runners to watch. I also raise three questions about the season  and give you a quick look at the season.

Thanks for reading and I’m sure we’ll start seeing everyone this weekend. Good luck this season and be sure to check back here for any more information throughout the season.
