New poll

October
25

Nicely done with the predictions for the county meet. The majority of you figured that Pearl River would win the girls meet, while Scarsdale would take the boys. You also knew that Ursuline would take Westchester and North Rockland would take Rockland. However, Iona Prep only received two votes and that’s the team that took second in Westchester. Most of you, along with myself, thought that Suffern was the second-best team for the Rockland girls. However, North Rockland really excelled and took the second spot.

As for the new poll, it’s the same as the last poll, except I want you to tell me what area team has the best chance to win the sectional title. And as always, feel free to add in your own choices. Again, thanks for voting and be sure to check back later when I’ll have some info on the Northern Counties championship.

Hey Dan, show some love for Class D too. You got Keio going head-to-head with Arnold Lane’s Alex Hamilton team. For once we have more than one team with a chance to represent Section 1 with something more than a by-default chance (on the boys’ side). These kids are going to be fighting up that hill and the Sect1 teams should show up at the finish to high-12 them into the States.

And two shoe-ins on the girls side, it’s 100% vs 100% chance, PR and BX.

  2. runner

P.King why don’t you hang around until 5:00 and high five everyone who crosses the line so we can all know who you really are. Now that would be great. But don’t do it too soon as we would not want anyone disqualified.

  3. runnn

northern county championships were at lakeside park in pawling=harder than bowdion

Gee runner, you really are unbalanced, but it’s no secret who I am since I write I post under my name instead of hiding behind a lame login. Not only will I be hanging around to cheer in the Class D runners who do deserve a lot of support when they cross the line, but as usual I’ll be running up and down Bowdoin’s hill more than a few times during the day to film a lot of the action from start to finish. Since you’re a “runner,” if at the end of the day you want to see if your feet are as fast as your mouth, maybe you can see if you can push your butt up the hill even once. But in case you didn’t hear, this meet is for all the kids, from classes AA to D, who will have some fun and then the best and lucky ones will go on to represent Section 1 and their teams at Sunken Meadows.

  5. "running" out of patinence

Hey—You know folks, the Jnews coverage, the blog, the Armory Site and the rest of the high school online running community is, in my view, really first and foremost for all the dedicated kids who participate in this sport. How about the adults set an example and learn to express opposing points of views without all the personal attacks. I don’t agree with everything said by P King, the Jnews correspondents, runnner and the other posters—but, sheesh, do we really need all the adjectives that are being thrown around. Reasonable minds differ—express your views and get over it… JMHO.

runner and Pking – Have sunk to all new lows. Nice job guys – maybe you should race each other for bragging rights.

  7. xc

class d is a joke. section one shouldn’t even run that race at sections, just throw those teams in the class C race. because no matter what they just go to the state meet and get worked. the kids from kieo suck, why do the sport if your just going to get beaten every week

  8. runner

XC you are a little harsh but correct. There will be lots of tears shed on Friday by athletes who will run very fast and not get to compete at States. Over the years I have seen many kids from Class D jogging thru their race and laughing about it. Kinda of sad the way the system is set.

  9. Atlas

though i agree section 1 class d, has become mediocre. those kids deserve the same chance to run as anyone else, throughout NYS also remember class D has had some great runners (i.e. Lee Berube last year). and LOL pelham boys for class b sectionals

  10. xc

Lee Berube was pretty good last year, but look at the next fastest time that came out of that race…when they changed the classes they should have just gone with AA, A, B, C, and combined class C and D because its just a joke. Completely unfair that some kids who barely train at all and run just for use on resume’s get to qualify for the state meet, while some kids dedicate themselves all summer to training and are forced to sit at home in november because they had the misfortune of living in a large school district.

  11. Unfair

    Hi.
Just in responce to the class D thing. I think it is totally unfair. The best teams should go to the state meet. Last year Queensbury girls were not able to go to the state meet as a team because Burnt hills was the qualifier for their section. Second best team from class a, and they werent able to go, i felt so bad for them. Also that same year, a girl from section one in class D (the only runner) ran almost 27 minutes at bowdoin and got to go….it is messed up.

  12. RinRanRun

Unfair you make a very valid point. To some extent, however, the State Champs is really not the State Champs; the press, coaches, athletes and others have to recognize that. Rather, it is the New York Public High School (with a some, select private schools) CLASS State Champs —i.e., it is 5 different championships (Class AA through D). Some of the injustices should be addressed by filling the New York Federation Meet—the closest thing to a real State meet—with powerhouse teams that, because they are in Section 1, say, don’t make it to States. I am not completely sure how they select the teams for Feds, though…

i love how the suffern boys weren’t even on the poll and they won the section
