Sectional predictions (boys)

October
30

Now it’s time to take a look at the boys. The boys races promise to be real close. Each class happy_halloween_ghost_hg_clr.gifmeet should be better than the next. This should be one crazy Halloween.

I’ll try and give you some of my thoughts on what will happen and as always feel free to thrown in what you think might happen.

Class AA:

Arlington was having a pretty quiet season until two weeks ago when the team took second at the Coaches Invitational and was the most dominant team in Section 1. It has three runners that need to come in 1-2-3 if Arlington wants to win. But on the other hand, North Rockland has had a real strong season. It has the best top five runners in the section and will need them all to step up to beat Arlington. It will need either Nick Hughes or Chris Carrington to break up Arlington’s front-running pack.

Suffern has lost to North Rockland three straight times and it will be an upset if this team can pull off the upset. It has the talent to be a serious challenger, but the team has struggled placing runners in the front of the pack all season. If Suffern can’t find a way to have one or two runners up in the top five it’ll be tough to win this meet. While Scarsdale is coming off a strong win at the Westchester County meet last week. This is a good team, but probably the 4th best at this meet. And Mahopac, while it won’t win, will cause havoc with the team’s top runners – James McDonough and joe Abed El Latif taking away points and possibly qualifying for states. Prediction: North Rockland squeaks by with John Muller taking first.

Class A:

This is another meet that has a lot of hopeful teams. Fox Lane is probably the best when everyone runs, but not everyone runs. Injuries have really hurt this team. Brewster has looked strong throughout the season winning the league, while Horace Greeley has been the most consistent of the teams and if it runs well this could be the sectional champ. Somers has also been hurt with some injuries and unless the team gets everyone back to full strength a sectional title will be hard to come by. Manu Kumar should take first in this race. Prediction: Fox Lane has all five runners and takes the title. This was my pick at the start of the season and I’m going to stick with them.

Class B:

Pearl River-Byram Hills-Byram Hills-Pearl River. Decisions-decisions. This is a tough race to predict. Byram Hills has come on strong the last few weeks and should be carrying in some momentum from the team’s success from the coaches invitational, which was also run at Bowdoin. Joe Violone and Chris Cioffoletti will need to take the second and third spots behind Mike Hickey. But after that it’s going to come down to the team that has the best depth. Right now I think it’s Byram Hills. Prediction: Byram in another toss-up. This could be a tie-breaker meet. I feel like one of these races will come down to it, why not this one.

Class C:

I guess this could also be tiebreaker. I was high on Irvington early, but Dobbs Ferry has closed in and looks to be the team to beat. Irvington beat out Dobbs last year…barely. And don’t think Dobbs wouldn’t like some payback. This should be a real intense race with Patrick Wortner taking first. Both schools are familiar with each other and know how to race against each other. This will be one of the more interesting races of the day. Prediction: Dobbs Ferry gets its revenge and moves on to states.

Class AA:

  1. North Rockland (48)

  2. Arlington (50)

  3. Suffern

  4. Scarsdale

  5. Mahopac

Class A:

  1. Fox Lane (45)

  2. Brewster (50)

  2. Pearl River (38)

  3. Rye

  5. Putnam Valley

Class C:

  2. Irvington (45)

  3. Pawling

Okay, there you have it. Let’s see what happens tomorrow. And don’t forget to tell me what you think’s going to happen.

I want fox lane to win, but I think Brewster will win with a tightly packed top 5

with a full, healthy team fl can destroy brewster with no problem

  3. interesting

    Go Dobbs Ferry….

  4. P. King

Not brave enough to make any predictions, but with each of the 4 largest classes seeming to be pretty close and competitive with runners from 6-7 teams finishing in the top 15, I’m figuring the winning scores in the classes may be in the low to mid 50s.
