Foot Locker

I was over at Van Cortlandt Park yesterday watching the Foot Locker northeast regionals. Shelby Greany was very impressive. If you haven’t seen the article in today’s paper take a look here. That race may have been the best race of her high school career. She took second at VCP in 17:37.7. I know she hadn’t been thrilled with her season to date, but yesterday she was phenominal.
Greany beat Aisling Cuffe of Cornwall. I’m not sure if Greany has beaten her this season, I don’t think so, and that makes that race even more impressive. She had the lead for a little bit halfway through the race and looked extremely strong as she finished. I know there was a lot of pressure on him to qualify for nationals four straight years and she was getting a little frustrated on how she was running, but yesterday she definitely showed why she has been one of the best runners in the history of Section 1.
She’ll now be running Dec. 13 at San Diego. Unfortunately we won’t be able to fly out there, but I’ll be sure to update you on her success at nationals.
Katie Sullivan wanted to test herself yesterday before college and ran well, finishing in 19:43.1. She felt as though she could’ve run faster, but considering the competition she ran well.
In the boys race we had a few more competitors. Sam Kohn of Scarsdale was the top are finisher as he finished in an impressive 16:59.9. his teammate, Ilkyu Lee, finished right behind him in 17:06.3. The top finished from Section 1 was Brandon Freyer of Pawling. He just missed qualifying as he took 15th in 16:09.3. Irvington’s Julian Saliani finished in 17:34.4.
As far as the other footlocker races go: Brewster’s Carlie Carr took 4th in the freshman race finishing in 17:23.3 Dayton Flannery of Bronxville was the next area finisher taking 14th in 17:57.8. Freshman Deanna Felicisimo took 10th in the girls freshmen race for Nanuet finishing in 21:20.8.
Sami Jorgensen of Pawling won the sophomore girls race finishing in 19:16.9.
In the junior boys race, Rye’s Max Robinson finished sixth in 17:08.3, while Harrison’s Emily Singer took second in 19:27.0.
I’ll be back with the Nike results a little later. Also, the track previews will be coming out Tuesday, Dec. 2. Make sure you take a look.

Where was Brandon Freyer all season? I also thought he went to Brewster?
sami jorgenson’s time was incredible and she doesnt even run on the pawling xc team
i think Freyer moved this summer and he didnt race until like late november
Freyer moved over from Brewster to Pawling but didn’t get to participate in the Tigers’ XC season. Sami Jorgensen is one of the stars of Pawlings good field hockey team and the top long distance runner during the track seasons. Both had impressive days at VCP.
Greany did indeed have a fantastic race to set herself up well for San Diego. Also good to see Aisling Cuffe of Cornwall do so well almost holding off Shelby’s late charge. Emily Lipari looked to be ensuring herself a spot for the Nationals and leaving a little in reserve. Good to see the NY Class C champion, senior Erin Cawley of Newark Valley, also qualify, which was a little bit of a surprise.
Caught the starts and finishes of the seeded girls and boys races and also the girls junior race (with Pleasantville’s Libby Lazare finishing 8th) and they’re posted over on the Dobbs Track site. Good day for a race, certainly better than Sunday.
Fryer transferd to Pawling. (wierd cause Brewster has a much better team). and he was ineligiable to run xc.
Freyer, a Junior, left Brewster because of differences of opinion with the coach on their training methods. It was a big sacrifice to make with having to skip a season but looks like he made the right move. He will be one to watch next year at Pawling.
Where were hickey and Hughes?
nxn regionals, hickey looked to be in good position to qualify at the 2mile mark. but the last mile was painful to watch for him
Makes you wonder with some of the local guys struggling in the later stages whether the transition from the usual and familiar 4K (~2.5m) course at VCP to the 5K there played a factor. Having run one of the shorter races and many of the full 5Ks at VCP, I’m guessing that the extra longer hill and longer finishing trail was not guaged completely for some of the runners and it left them a bit flat at the end.
he seems to run better when he’s by himself in races and not with competition because he ran fine at bowdoin for sectionals. It’s just when he has competition he seems to run his competitions race and not his own race. Or it could have just been another bad day.
Because this year im pretty sure Hickeys ran at Bowdoin more than van cortlandt.
Hickey didn’t do well because he has been burnt out since states. He had an amazing race, and if you watched the race and saw the finish, he put his all in to that. That’s why at Feds and Foot Locker he just burnt out by the 2 mile mark.
P.King your pretty stupid if thats your grand theory, I’m mike hickey and I’m pretty sure that all of my races with the exception of 1 were either run on a 5k or 3mile course. As far as why I’ve been running pretty bad…your guess is probably better than mine. At nxn I felt pretty strong until the 2mile mark, then it all went to sh!t.
Mike are you getting any blood work? Get your iron levels checked and make sure you do the Feratin (sp) levels as well. Do a complete workup. Good luck in the winter.
I think Danielle Turro had something wrong with her iron or some blood thing (she was a foot locker finalist) a couple years ago and she collapsed like 10 meters from the finish.
Oh no, BooHoo is back posing as Mike Hickey (shut up) after using every other alias he could think of to post under both here and on the Milesplit site. Jeez, if you don’t feel shameless enough after stabbing fellow coaches in the back, trashing the Class D runners, and ripping other teams, you have to sink to this now. Why don’t you just stick with playing with your clueless numbers and rankings on the Milesplit site and stop stinking up this site too. I’ll still be rooting for your runners this season because with a coach like you, they need all the support they can get with a whiney little waste like you screaming at them. See you at the Armory and maybe RCC.
no seriously my name is mike hickey…i post as nyrunner09 on dyestat, i had mono last winter, what else would you like me to say to prove to you? your making yourself look even more stupid by not believing that. and runrunrun, I don’t think it’s anything medical, just died really badly in the last mile of that race. It can’t be mono again, and i’m pretty sure it’s not anemia so idk i’m just going to take time off and get ready for a long 2 track seasons but thanks for your concern
Mr. King – guess you are back to abuse coaches, fans and now athletes in these blogs! You are really a very sad “adult” please stay in your little Dobbs Ferry town and maybe some day you will be grownup. Also, nice AC dinner last night. Glad you were not there.
This is sad.

Dan- This stuff is crossing the line and some of it clearly violates the lohud terms of service. You should consider doing some moderating here and bring things back to respectability. Comment #21 is particularly disturbing and offensive on many levels. Folks have been banned or suspended for less on other sites. C’mon.
P.King….I’m not sure, but it seems according to many of your absurd posts, that you think a lot of people are me that are not, including Mike Hickey??
Your allegations about stabbing other coaches in the back, trashing Class D teams as well as ripping other teams are baseless. I understand you were upset about the rankings for XC I did, when I dropped DF. You have a right to your opinions, but not to continually rip others for things you know nothing of.
If I did anything with class D this year it was praise all of them for their increased participation and making it a class to watch this past season and hopefully in seasons to come.
I hope that you attend as many meets as you can, feel free to cheer for anybody you wish, but not because you dislike their coach. Cheer because you enjoy the sport for more than the conflict you cause on the boards.
You can always find me listed as bxvtrack or runnered, if you feel the need to “vent” about me, target my names, not those that you feel might or might not be mine (although ohboohoo is creative). I would not take credit for Mike Hickey either, he is way too fast for me to ever fake being. Kudos to you, Mike, for speaking up on your own.
Enjoy the upcoming season and let’s hope the kids run well.
