Why aren’t the Westchester All County runners listed. I only see Rockland Counnty runners? Shouldn’t they be honored somewhere?

The All-Star link is the Westchester/Putnam team. All-County is for Rockland. Both links worked I just tested them.

It may be that there is a mix up in the name of your tabs. There is a difference between All Star and All County. Not all of the first team All county Westchester runners are listed as westchester all stars. But it seems that you are mentioning all of the All county runners in Rockland. Shouldn’t the all county runners in all of the counties be listed under the tab for All county, not just Rockland runners?

The Westchester Section is called All-Stars. It is the all-county list it’s just not called that. Follow the link and you’ll see the Westchester team.

The Rockland Section is called All-County. That’s just the name of the section. We don’t call Westchester all-county because it is for two counties.

    Trust me. They are right.

Henrietta Miers’ best 800m was 2:12.48.

Charlotte Pope should have been the Track Athlete of the Season – she dominated her events the entire season and scored more points for NR than anyone else – bad job.

I’m not sure where Henrietta Miers’ ran the time you posted but both Armory Track and the Section 1 Track leader boards have her best time at 2:13.40.

As we’ve said in the past, we can only work with the information given to us.

As someone who was at the Westchester All-County selection meeting, there are a number of athletes who are left out of your All-County/All-Star listing. All-County went three or four deep in some events, meaning that there are more than just the athletes listed on your website who have received All-County plaques and All-County status.

The Journal News All-Star team may be a more appropriate name for the link, but please realize that this is not the same thing as receiving All-County status. The athletes printed in the paper may have been awarded The Journal News’ status as “All Stars” but a committee of coaches from Westchester County actually voted on the All-County team at a meeting, and THOSE athletes should be honored as the All-County team. Let’s please avoid giving some of the athletes who received All-County plaques from their coaches after the meeting the impression that their achievements are not noteworthy.

The correct All-County lists are readily available on the Section One coaches website, and have the full lists available for anyone who is interested.

If you checked the more accurate New York State leaders’ list maintained by Dan Doherty, you would see that Henrietta Miers indeed did run 2:12.48 on 6/6/09 at the New Jersey International Invitation. The information is there for your investigation. And as Track Coach correctly points out, the real All County Athletes are those selected by the track coaches. That also can also be accessed on the WDPRTFCA page. All the information is there for the taking.

    westchester – not a problem.

I have no problem with The Journal News choosing an All-Star team that is separate from our coaches’ All-County team, but to have a section of the paper billed as “All-County” implies that the list TJN publishes is something it’s not. There was no distinguishing between 1st team, 2nd team, and Honorable Mention at our coaches meeting; if you were good enough to receive All-County recognition, you were good enough to make it as All-County.

I just checked the list on the coaches’ site, and there was only one boys’ event in which one single athlete received All-County status…that was the 400 H, where Weisbrot blew away the competition. There were at least two athletes in each of the other events who received All-County status.

I’m not here to slam TJN’s coverage of track – I’m a realist and know that it is not one of the higher profile sports (even though Section One is traditionally an extremely tough Section, one of the best in NY state) and also recognize the financial state of many local papers – but to slight so many athletes who actually achieved All-County status is, in my mind, a very large error.

    no empire games

not really true for track and field…. Liberty empire games this weekend. Article in JN was lame in that the author wrote nothing about how the track world can actually get its running shoes on and hold a competition. It is happening inGlens Falls. SoActually Queensbury, NY so Dan and Casey there the story. No doom and gloom story crying about how there is no competition but how it can actually happen, even in the “hard econmic times”. Congrats to the organizers and the athletes. From bantam to masters. This meet is happening.
