So I got an e-mail last night from a friend who told me that at the Metropolitan Association Junior Olympic trials yesterday, Suffern sophomore Jen Clayton long-jumped 20 feet, 4 1/2 inches. Needless to say, I was pretty shocked.
I guess I shouldn’t be though, because the girl just keeps breaking records and doing extraordinary [...]
So the title of that post may be a little overdramatic, but it was pretty brutal at Easterns yesterday.
I give the athletes who competed a ton of credit for braving the heat. I’ll run through some of the meet’s highlights:
Caitlin Hudson continues to get better for Bronxville. She won the 800 yesterday with another [...]
Day one featured a great 800, where Ashley Maurer, Caitlin Hudson and Lisa Lungaro all finished within one-tenth of a second of each other. Jen Clayton, Sasha Richards, Charlotte Pope and Tonya Miller all turned in good performances as well.
Now for day [...]
Continuing with Dan’s theme and using his same set of parameters, here are some surprise athletes on the girls side.
A few quick interesting notes: Elizabeth Mott continued a terrific senior year by breaking the outdoor record in the 400 meters, running [...]
I was speaking to Britney Clarke last night about her decision to attend the University of Miami, and I got to thinking that a bunch of area girls will be competing at high profile programs next year. I made a list in my head, and I want to add to that list (which you’ll find [...]
Up until about 3 o’ clock today, it looked like the Rockland championship meet was going to happen. But, the meet was postponed until tomorrow, starting at 10 a.m.
After watching the athletes struggle through the inclement weather last Friday at Loucks, I think pushing the meet back was a really good call. As much [...]
The Doc Rasbeck Relays were held Saturday at Irvington. The meet has good tradition and drew some excellent athletes this year. Below are the meet results for girls in Class I. Class II and II, and boys, will be up soon.
CLASS I
Team Scores:
Yorktown 120
Mahopac 114
Lakeland/Panas [...]
Well, the Mets lost a tough one today, and normally I’d be fairly depressed, but Dan and I were both at Somers High School today and saw some excellent performances at The Somers Invitational.
I was very impressed with the Somers girls, who did quite well at their home meet. Megan and Avery Faeth led the [...]
Well I just got back from the first day of Penn Relays, and what an exciting day it was.
I have to say the atmosphere at Franklin Field was different from any meet I’ve been since I’ve been on the track and field beat. Attendance was over 23,000 today, and the crowd was into every [...]
So I was out at North Rockland HS for the first day of Red Raider Relays today, and what a nice day it was. Great day of competition too. The girls 1,600 was a tremendous race, as Suffern’s Shelby Greany showed a lot of heart with a big kick in the last 200 meters. Greany [...]
Like Dan, I too was at my first meet of the spring season yesterday. I headed out over the Tappan Zee bridge to Pearl River to take in the Pirate Relays on a surprisingly beautiful day. It was interesting talking to some of the athletes who ran deep into the indoor season at states and [...]
With the spring season upon us, I want to pose a question to you trackies out there. Which athlete that people might not be familiar with yet will make her presence felt during the outdoor season?
OK, so I was planning on making a post similar to Dan’s “for those we’ve met already hello again, for those we haven’t, looking forward to it,” but he beat me to it.
Got to give the man credit; he’s on top of things.
I will say that this winter season was incredibly exciting. [...]
