     So I got an e-mail last night from a friend who told me that at the Metropolitan Association Junior Olympic trials yesterday,  Suffern sophomore Jen Clayton long-jumped 20 feet, 4 1/2 inches. Needless to say, I was pretty shocked.

I guess I shouldn’t be though, because the girl just keeps breaking records and doing extraordinary [...]

     So the title of that post may be a little overdramatic, but it was pretty brutal at Easterns yesterday.

I give the athletes who competed a ton of credit for braving the heat. I’ll run through some of the meet’s highlights:

Day one featured a great 800, where Ashley Maurer, Caitlin Hudson and Lisa Lungaro all finished within one-tenth of a second of each other. Jen Clayton, Sasha Richards, Charlotte Pope and Tonya Miller all turned in good performances as well.

I certainly think postponing the meet proved to be the right move. We got a beautiful day for the Rockland championships yesterday and some excellent performances to go with it.

     Up until about 3 o’ clock today, it looked like the Rockland championship meet was going to happen. But, the meet was postponed until tomorrow, starting at 10 a.m.
